Fortnite is generating buzz in the way you’d least expect: getting tweens and teens off those dang phones* and playing outside again.
Enter Fort Masters: a fort-building competition that helps tweens and teens build nature literacy skills and actually touch some grass.

The gist: players or teams will build a fort and submit a photo, and a select few will compete on Twitch to stay in their forts as long as possible. Fortnite will build winning players’ forts in-game.
The secret? The more players learn about nature, the more advantages they can win later on.

Educational website fortmasters.com will help players learn about trees and other plants, plus common fort-building and survival techniques.
My favorite part of this project was writing in a voice that young gamers would relate to (and deem worthy of their attention).
It was a fun challenge incorporating Fortnite or gaming vocab without sounding cringe — or worse, like an advertiser.

The most fun piece of copy I wrote during this project was the FAQ pags for players who’ve advanced to the livestream round of the competition. After all, when else can you use “constipated” in your copy?
